US women's hockey team will not take the field unless they get the fair pay

The conflict between the US women’s hockey team and the federation of the pay does not seem to be going anywhere. In team members are not happy with the response of the federation and are planning to boycott the world championships that will start next month in Michigan. The US women’s hockey team has proved their worth as the world champions and has been regularly raising the issue of unfair pay. In what could be the make or break situation, the team would not be reporting to the training camp unless the deal is approved. The tweets keep coming from the players, expressing their anger and disappointment for not receiving the wages that they deserve.

Meghan Duggan, being the captain of the team made the official statement that on behalf of the team: “We are asking for a living wage, and for USA Hockey to fully support its programs for women and girls, and stop treating us like an afterthought. We have represented our country with dignity and deserve to be treated with fairness and respect.” The dispute over the wages in not new in the US sports history. We witnessed a similar dispute over the unfair wages involving women’s soccer team, last year. Presently, the hockey players are covered in contract only during the Olympic years. The players are demanding for the contract to apply in all the other years as well. In a statement released by the law firm from the player’s side, it was revealed that the players received $1000 per month for just the period of 6 months during Olympics. In the rest of the months, they received almost nothing from the federation. Lamoureux-Davidson expressed her disappointment saying that things have not changed even a bit over the last 14 months. Thus, they are forced to take a serious step in an attempt to force USA Hockey Federation to take the issue seriously. The assistant captain of the team, Monique Lamoureux-Morando said, “It’s hard to believe that, in 2017, we still have to fight so hard for basic equitable support. But when I think about the women who paved the way for our team – and when I see girls at rinks around the country who are dedicated to pursuing big dreams and look to us to lead by example – it’s well overdue for us to speak up about unfair treatment, even if it means sacrificing an opportunity to represent our country.”For More New update visit : whamreport
